Punto Banco Policies

Punto banco is bet on with 8 decks of cards in a dealer's shoe. Cards below 10 are counted at their printed number while 10, J, Q, K are zero, and A is 1. Wagers are placed on the 'banker', the 'player', or on a tie (these are not really people; they simply represent the 2 hands that are dealt).

Two cards are given to both the 'bank' and 'player'. The total for each hand is the sum of the cards, but the first digit is ignored. For example, a hand of 5 and 6 has a value of one (five plus 6 equals eleven; dump the initial 'one').

A third card may be given out depending on the rules below:

- If the player or bank gets a score of 8 or nine, both players stand.

- If the player has less than 5, she hits. Players otherwise stay.

- If the player holds, the house takes a card on a total less than five. If the player hits, a guide is used to determine if the banker holds or hits.

Punto Banco Odds

The greater of the 2 totals wins. Winning bets on the house pay out 19:20 (even payout minus a five percent commission. Commission are recorded and paid off when you leave the game so ensure you still have money left just before you head out). Winning bets on the player pays 1:1. Winning bets for tie usually pay eight to one but on occasion 9 to 1. (This is a poor bet as ties happen lower than 1 in every 10 hands. Avoid betting on a tie. Although odds are substantially better for 9 to 1 versus 8:1)

Wagered on properly punto banco offers pretty good odds, aside from the tie bet of course.

Baccarat Strategy

As with all games punto banco has quite a few established false impressions. One of which is similar to a misunderstanding in roulette. The past is not a fore-teller of events about to happen. Keeping track of past outcomes on a page of paper is a bad use of paper and a snub to the tree that was cut down for our stationary needs.

The most accepted and almost certainly the most accomplished course of action is the 1-3-2-6 method. This method is used to pump up earnings and limit risk.

Start by betting one unit. If you win, add one more to the two on the game table for a grand total of three dollars on the second bet. If you win you will now have six on the table, remove four so you keep two on the 3rd round. If you succeed on the 3rd round, put down two to the 4 on the table for a sum total of six on the fourth round.

Should you do not win on the first wager, you take a hit of one. A win on the 1st wager followed by a hit on the second brings about a loss of 2. Wins on the first two with a loss on the 3rd gives you with a profit of two. And wins on the 1st three with a hit on the fourth means you balance the books. Winning at all 4 bets gives you with 12, a take of ten. This means you are able to not win on the second round five times for each successful streak of four bets and still break even.
